Curriculum : Ninth to Twelfth Grade

Music Appreciation - Listening to, analyzing and describing music from around the world, in particular music of the African Tradition and the European Tradition and other World, National, and Community music;

Music Connections - Composers and their music;

Music history;

Music Improvisation - Students learn to improvise by singing and playing a variety of traditional and no-traditional instruments.  Melodies, variations and accompaniments.  Beginning improvisational learning activities centered around student's development of aural/oral skills and sense of melodic direction;

Music Notation - Reading and notating music in the Western tradition / Students read, notate and interpret symbols of rhythmic and melodic patterns;

Performances - Using various instruments.  Using familiar melodies and rhythms to support note reading

Composing and Arranging music in the traditional manner, as well as computer software and MIDI equipment to organize and generate their musical ideas

Instruments: large drums, drum sets, flutes, harmonica, kalimbas

Ensembles: Percussion Ensemble, Wind Ensemble, GoGo & Rap

Voice: Offered at all grade levels
